True happening
News Item
Hi all, Herman & Gerda's trip, or how not to go on holidays. Our daughter, Melissa got married in May in Manchester, England. It was a good excuse for a holiday. We had no trouble with the volcano ash, it had dispersed. GOOD!!! After about a week in England Herman decided to get sick and was diagnosed with diaviticulitis (a nasty infection in the bowel). He was prescribed antibiotics. So far so good. Two days before the wedding a large (12 mm) kidney stone decided to go walkabout but got stuck along the way. He was in hospital for the wedding as he was dosed up on morphine and could barely get out of bed. The wedding party visited him and we had a couple of laughs. We were all dressed to the nines except Herman who was in his boxer shorts and t-shirt - wedding photos with a difference!
A few days after the kidney stone was removed he was allowed out of hospital and we went to Holland. Herman was in a wheelchair at the airports and we received A-1 service and priority at all the queues. In Holland the infection flared up again and he was back in hospital but this time in isolation as he had been in hospital recently. To visit him we had to dress up in gowns, masks, caps and gloves. (This was to prevent the risk of golden staff and other hospital related infection being spread) FUN!!!! When they thought he was on the mend he was allowed to go 'home'. A week later we went back to England to spend the last few days with Melissa. The doctors told him it would take up to 2 months to recover fully and to take things easy. He did and things like mowing the lawns now take two days instead of just one morning. That is fine as long as he gets better in the long run. This is Herman's version of "Around the world in eighty hospitals - part 1 & 2" We hope to cancel the rest of the program Cheers Gerda Zirkzee
