Colo River Holiday Park
Just a few lines to let you know what a terrific little Getaway that is.
We just spent a week out there, it’s a great place to sit and relax with
a book in peace and tranquillity while you get back to nature, or if you want to get physical, you can go canoeing, bush walking or cycling.
We were happy to throw a line in the river, and the kids threw themselves in the new swimming pool.
We hope to get another week or weekend there in the next month or so, as it is less than an hour’s drive from Penrith or St Marys.
It is well worth the effort.
It is a great way of breaking the monotone of every day life.
We can recommend it to all members of the Club.

Keep smiling
Many year ago I too, became the victim of gold fever. I was going to discover my El Dorado with my new gold detector I had constructed.
We packed up the car with enough camping gear to last me for a year. The kids were very exited. We were going to be very rich on our return from Sofala, they thought.
We didn’t even know what gold looked like. An old prospector had to tell me the difference between fools gold and the real stuff, but believe me once you see it you will never forget the beautiful yellow shine of gold. Hours of panning in the Turon River delivered only a few specs. It was time to go for the big nuggets with the detector, swiping the machine carefully along the banks of the river. It didn’t take long before the headphone I was wearing went bezerk with its beeping signal telling me there was something there that in my thinking had to be gold. What else was I looking for? The four of us dug with shovels and pick axes until our hands blistered, only to find a old horse shoe from way back in the time of the bush rangers in the area. We never found anything of value. In years to come I went to many old shafts and mines to seek my El Dorado. The hotel owner in Wedderburn (gold town in Victoria) told me he was sure there was an million dollar nugget under his hotel. If I would buy his hotel I would have a good change of becoming a millionaire.
Once in Adelong on the way to Tumut, I was sure I was going to be rich.
I befriended an old prospector in the town, who would show me the way
to the talweg in the creek. Talweg is a bend in a river or creek. The detector made a loud noise and before we started to dig, we signed up an agreement, that whatever we found we would split up 5 ways, one part for him and four parts for each of us, so we would get most of the loot. After digging all day we found a large piece of corrugated roof iron. I bought the prospector a beer or two and never ventured the gold fields again.
I made up my mind, that “looking for gold” you got to have a strong back and a weak mind. A.H

He was impressed by the way his buddy preceded every request to his wife with endearing terms such as: Honey, My Love, Darling, Sweetheart, Pumpkin, etc.
The couple had been married almost 70 years and, clearly, they were still very much in love.
While the wife was in the kitchen, the man leaned over and said to his host, 'I think it's wonderful that, after all these years, you still call your wife those loving pet names.'
The old man hung his head. 'I have to tell you the truth,' he said, 'Her name slipped my mind about 10 years ago and I'm scared to death to ask her what it is!' S.O. What.
