Sinterklaas was at the Rembrandt Club and had lots of presents to give away.
But first there was the reptile show. It was enjoyed by old and young.
The clown on glogs was handing out ice creams and lollies, while there were games to be played and won by the contestants
There were three black Pieters who kept everyone in order and even sang a very Dutch Sinterklaas song.
Thank you black Pieters and everyone that helped out to make this a perfect day.
You made a great team.
Even the big hailstorm could not spoil this day.

Scrabble
Welcome to
all our players, old and new. It is great to see our numbers increasing, more
than 10 players each week, all still having good days and bad days, but not yet
coming to blows, as to who is the best player.
Welcome
back to Don whom we have not seen for a few months.
A very big thank you to our
leader Francis for her energy to keep our score sheets and books up
to date.
Our last
game of the year in the club will be the 21 December, we resume on the 27
January. For those whom would like a game of scrabble between those dates we
will be able to play our games at Rochford Place Retirement Village
on the following dates. 28th Dec. 6 / 13 /20 / being the first three
Fridays in March.
Thank
you to all the great volunteers for all their work making us
sandwiches and coffee.
May you
all feel Gods love and blessing now and in the coming year. See
you in 2012 Jacqui
Klaverjas
On the 11th of November (a Friday) it was my birthday and I did get a big surprise. All
the card players presented me with a lovely card- a bunch of flowers chocolates
–wine and lots of other presents and good wishes for the whole year. Thank you very much all friends it is very much appreciated. On the 13th of November we played for the Kommer-shield. We had 48 players trying to get their name on Kommer-shield. It was a Rembrandt victory! Theo Schaaf managed to win with 5493 points. There is one more tournament for the year to come on Sunday the 11th of December at Neerlandia. On Friday the 2nd of December we have our prize giving dinner and
the end of the year competition for 2011 Please be there by 6 pm

During our recent cruise with P & O, I had the privilege of touring the galley (kitchen). It was a tour and a half, between giant benches and enormous cooking facilities and now I am happy to be back @ my very own sink. The break away was a great experience and I advise anyone to do a cruise and get on the big sea of fun.Back to the real world now; December is the month of celebrating Christmas and to be thankful for all we have. I would like to thank all the volunteers that helped our (your) club this recent year. Whether you helped out with cleaning and got your hands dirty, or you did some brain-wrecking office work, it is all part of the whole system that works for the community. We have members who depend on a lift and thanks to those who shuttle them to and from they are able to spend time at their ‘home away from home’. Thanks to the sponsors, big and small, improvements have been done outside the building. The place is looking better every year.I am proud to say that our Club welcomes all visitors. So much so, that on a certain day, within 30 minutes we had 3 new members signing up. Total strangers until they walked trough the door. The membership number is now past 450 and who knows when we can welcome our 500th member.First of all there are still some outstanding membership fees to be paid. All members will receive a brand new membership card within the next few weeks. The mix-up with the membership numbers as was discussed at the AGM is now sorted out. On you new card you will notice that you have got your original number back. If that is not the case that number belonged to a member who joined the club before you did, therefore it is his/her original number. Also on you new card there is a windmill. That is the new card and any other one(s) you have are no longer valid. Because of this confusion the Friday night member draw will discontinue, however the weekly $2. will be added and as from the first Friday in 2012 the draw will resume. To win the draw you have to show your card and number. In other words ‘you have to be there’WISHING EVERYONE A HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A HEALTHY NEW YEAR Mia See you all back in 2012 on January 20

Time is flying. It is therefore good to slow down and reflect on life and family during the Christmas period. If you look around the world, than we are not that bad of.We are indeed very fortunate to live in a democratic country that is doing reasonably well for this day and age.So look at the bright site of life and enjoy the festive season with your loved ones.On behalf of the board I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year . John Joosten PresidentNews from the FederationThe Federation of Netherland Societies has undertaken some big projects in the past 44 years. Such as the establishment of the Juliana and Abel Tasman Villages, KLM flights to Australia, the CACP (Dutch home care) the NSW Holland Festivals, the Senior Holidays and many others. As times are always changing so is the interest, outlook and future of the FederationOver the last year one of the new adopted projects has been set in working.A small committee has been formed to look at the following:> Where are we heading > What will be left after we are gone> What will become of our assets Be they financial or our collective knowledge of the past The intention is to facilitate the establishment of a “DUTCH HUB” where our historical archives can be kept for future reference. Where those that are interested may come and research their “Dutch Connection”. A place where we can display exhibits of our art and records, photographs and perhaps verbal stories of our time here in Australia. What was Australia like in the 50’s, or whenever we came here? How has it changed, thanks to your input. The HUB will be owned by every one, held in trust for future generations. The board of the Federation is looking for further interest and ideas regarding this project. If you can assist please feel free to contact the secretaryMr Peter Hamer31 Asquit Avenue Rosebery NSW 2018hamerpjc@optusnet.com.au

By Francis Larder The opening day of our exhibition had finally arrived. With mixed emotions of excitement and nervousness I arrived at our opening not knowing what the response would be. It was such an overwhelming surprise to see so many people there, and what a wonderful reaction and response we received. There were approximately 140 guests. Most of the volunteers were there with their families, also the Sydney Dance Group. Lisa Magri opened the exhibition by welcoming everybody and giving a brief introduction about the exhibition.I then gave my opening speech thanking everybody for coming. People came from Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Bowral, New-Castle, Sydney and the Blue Mountains to be part of this opening and I was most impressed.Klaas Woldring spoke about the financial part of the project, which was done on a shoe string budget .The touching on our back ground involvement and extensive early contacts of the VOC seafarers with the Australian Continent, starting with the mapping of the West coast of Cape York in 1606. By 1644 75% of the Australian Coast had been mapped by Abel Tasman. Before WWII several remarkable Dutch individuals migrated to Australia like Guillaume Delprat , who was General Manager of Broken Hill Pty. Ltd. from 1899- 1921 And initiated the steel industry in New-Castle. Dr. Nonja Peters, Director of Migration, Ethnicity, Refugees and Citizenship (MERC) Research Unit of Curtin University (WA), author of several outstanding books, also spoke about the importance of preserving the history of the migration, her presence added significantly to the status of this exhibition. An amusing contribution was made by Mike and Amanda of the Puppet people, who brought life to two of the marionettes from the Wadden Islands, while I gave a brief description on the clothes they were wearing. This was then followed by the Sydney Dance Group, who performed several traditional clog dances, accompanied by Herman Zirkzee on the accordion and Jamie Carlin on the concertina. I followed up with a speech to thank all the volunteers for their big effort on a job well done, their dedication and support over these last four years in making this exhibition such a success. The “Echoes from the Past “exhibition, was then formerly opened by CH Councilor Terry Beckhouse, who well aware of the historic Dutch contributions, congratulated the organizers on a job well done. Jan Hartsuijker and his family were there also cooking up a storm with their poffertjes. I think he said that they cooked about 900 poffertjes. Not a bad effort and they were enjoyed by all.It was unfortunate we were unable to raise funds for getting catalogues printed for the visitors. Quite a few people were asking for them, which was a great pity.I just wanted to add ;,that I would like to thank both Jan and Mia Joosten for all their support and how special it , was to have them at our opening , knowing full well what a busy schedule they have running their Club.! I really appreciated them being there. Francis

WISHING EVERYONE A HEALTHY NEW YEAR This was a very busy year and the busiest month ever.I would like to thank a lot of members (and non-members) for their input during the Sinterklaas time. Did you come to any of the events in December? Think of everything you took for granted. The Lawn looked immaculate. The building inside was sparkling clean. The present wrapping, sorting out and calling of children went fantastic. Even with the storm wiping everything planned for outside of the map, the children were kept busy thanks to a great team. The handing out of ice creams might be a small part, but a great help. It was fun to have to say: just look for the Clown. The Zwarte Pieten are a gift send from heaven. With the Luncheon it was again team work that made the day go smoothly. Sinterklaas’ lap was very much sat on and lots of photos were taken.Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet had already visited the Abel Tasman Village two days before and they must have been exhausted, but they did not show it.Sinterklaas also visited the Dutch ship ‘t Duyfken at the Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour. During the Christmas Dinner night Sinterklaas visited our Club again I do hope He has a break now because He does deserves one. Danke SinterklaasjeThe Christmas shop did well, thanks to the seller and the buyers. Thanks to all who made these December events a roaring successIn between all of that one person was very busy sorting out the new but old membership numbers. It’s all done and if you have not received your new card with this magazine or during the Christmas dinner night that could mean your fee might be in arrears. Contact me if there seams to be a problem. Now in to the New Year and we start from scratch. To our new members that joined recently; welcome to The Club.If you would like to volunteer in any way don’t be shy. Let me know what you would like to do. There are many different duties to fill. You’ll find me at my home away from home. The Club 9623 2569 Mia See you all back on January 20. It feels like yesterday when we are talking about 2010, but in the end we managed to cramp a lot into 2011, so let’s hope 2012 will be as good if not better.May I take this opportunity to wish all of you and your dear ones a very happy, but more important a very healthy 2012. YOUR President John Joosten
